Republicans favor SMALLER government. "Government that governs least governs best." Republicans are supposed to before cutting spending, letting the private individuals and companies to solve their problem. They believe that the "private sector" runs most efficiently and can do a better job than the government. Example: US Post Office vs. Fed Ex & UPS. Have you ever seen a government entity or worker that impressed you with its efficiency & cost effectiveness?
|
Government |
Democrats favor BIGGER government.
Government needs to take care of all the people. Democrats are always for increasing social security and medicare, expanding it's coverage and putting more money into education regardless of performance. It definately frowns upon "privatization", which means anyone who is not a government run entity - - such as private schools and corporations. Like most cases, Democrats have their heart in the right place but in terms of government, they like it too big - they're like "chubby chasers". :) |
Point Blank on Government: Government should be limited to only its essential roles. Currently, it has overextended their welcome and is failing too many systems. Examples: social security and medicare is rampant with fraud, public schools are failing, and the IRS tax code is a prime example of their convoluted incompetence. Somebody needs to tell them about KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). The problem is, because government is it's own boss and they don't answer to anyone else it breeds corruption and waste. What would happen if you gave money to someone else to shop for you? What if you didn't give them a budget? You think it's true that it's easier to spend someone else's money than yours? Government is the same way. They will spend our tax dollars and don't think twice about it because it's not out of their pocket. Except, government spends in scales of billions of dollars. Kinda crazy, eh?
Both parties have done a horrible job! Democrats can't find a government program they don't like, and the Republicans who are supposed to be for smaller government has gone right along and spent spent spent! That's why corruption and waste plague everything they do - - regardless of party! So it is in the people's best interest to give them as little as possible to do. Government has it's important roles that no one else can do, but when it tries to take care of everything, we've got problems. As American, we need to chose leaders that want to keep government small - - regardless of party. |

| Republicans believe that U.S. needs to rule with an iron fist -
U.S. is a peaceful nation, but there are others that look to harm us and we will use military force if necessary. Republicans have always been the party to initiated military action. Republicans have always been strong on national security in the eyes of the public and have a "do what it takes" approach. Today, much political correctness has watered that down extremely. |
National Security
&
Military |
Democrats do not believe in military action. They might say they'll use it as a last resort, but the fact is, there has been little to no military action that has ever been initiated by the Democrats. Democrats believe most international issues can be solved through peacekeeping efforts - meetings & talks. This is not the Democrats strong suit. In the eyes of the public, they are weak in this issue. |
| Point Blank on National Security: The U.S. is by far the strongest nation in the country. Our military budget and technology surpass everyone else many folds. However, it's sometimes taken for granted. As Americans, we're SO used to being the big guy on campus that we haven't given much thought to what the world would be like if the big guy was someone else? What if it was China, Russia, or Japan? What if they could bully us and tell us what to do? What if other countries like Iraq & Pakistan were stronger than us? What would the world be like then? The fact is, as many blunders and imperfect wars we've had, overall, we are by far the most benevolent super-power ever! We literally give away power, land and money! Example: We gave away the Panama canal after we paid millions to have it built! This is now a HUGE international money maker in world trade. We blew up Japan and rebuilt them, and now their infrastructure and technology far exceeds our average. We beat the hell out of the Nazi's in Germany and then helped rebuild them and supplied military protection for over 30 years! Name ONE other country that has the ability and the generosity to do that! We are basically the big man on campus that doesn't know he's big and let's all the smaller school bullies beat on him. When Japan Pearl Harbor'ed us, they said they "woke the sleeping dragon". In conclusion, America MUST stay focused on staying strong to maintain our national security. |

| Republicans believe that government should fund both public & private schools. Republicans support School Vouchers which will allows parents to get a voucher for a dollar amount (example $3,000) towards their child's education if they decide to move them from public to private school. Public schools will then have to improve their performance and actaully earn their students back. Republicans believe that School Vouchers will give parents more options and schools more incentive to perform. See Wikipedia has some great details. |
Education |
Democrats believe that government should fund public schools ONLY. They oppose funding of private schools to compete with public schools regardless of whether the private school is successful or not. However, no price is too high to fund more public education. Strongly tied to Teacher's Union, where teacher across the country voice their opinion on job security, work conditions, retirement plans, etc. Just like ANY Union, they have lobbyists and large contributions. This habit is not iscolated to the corporations. |

| Republicans are typically "Pro-Life". This means they believe "life" starts from conception, the minute the girl is pregnant (when the sperm fertilizes the egg). And to abort means to kill. Strongly backed by Christians and Catholics, Pro-Life is means to cherish all life. |
Abortion |
Democrats are typically "Pro-Choice". This means that the women has the choice to abort or not. No one wants to call themselves a murderer, so they choose to believe that life does NOT start at conception, but at birth. Starting from "What about rape situations" to the medical health of the mother issues, the Pro-Choice groups is strongly backed by feminists group (power to the women folks) and less church oriented groups. |
| Point Blank on Abortion: I don't think America is ever going to swing strong either way. It's a very touchy issue, but there are definately some improvements to be made. First is partial birth abortion. If a women decides to abort a child, it should be decided before the 2nd or 3rd trimester in the least. That givers her 3-6 months! Because by this time, the baby has fingers, toes and a brain and so if abortion involves breaking the neck of the fetus and sucking out the brains, that's a bit too much for most people. Second, when the life of the mother is at risk, the decision should be made by the mother. It is her body and her baby that she's carried along this far, so in this diffucult situation, the decision is hers. However, other difficult questions remain. What about rape? What about accidental teen pregnancy? Perhaps laws that require them to decide before the 2nd or 3rd trimester would be fair. What most people don't want is to use abortion as a convenient "get out of jail free" card for irresponsible sex... because at the end of the day, most people realize that life is precious and pregnancy is a fascinating miracle in itself. Let's not abuse it irresponsibly. |

| This is quite ironic when you compare it to the abortion positions for both parties. Pro-life Republicans, who want to save babies favor capital punishment (death penalty). Save the baby, kill the criminals. Republicans think there is a point of no return when it comes to crime and harming/murdering others. If you commit a crime so hanus and unforgiveable, death can be a consequence. |
Capital Punishment |
The Pro-Choice (ok to kill babies) Democrats don't think harsh criminals deserve to die. Kill the baby, save the criminals. Both parties have their own ironies between the two issues. Democrats believe in rehabilitation and reintroducing reformed criminals into the public to become good law-abiding citizens. |
